How to help

After traveling throughout Latin America documenting the AfroLatinos story the producers immediately learned that this journey was not solely about shooting in these communities and just leaving. What was learned during this experience was that their work could make a difference and they realized that this was an opportunity to create change for the better.

The team would like to offer suggestions on how you can help these communities. They would like to share some of the social work that has already been done and how YOU the viewer can help.

The producers do not suggest sending money or supplies to organizations. Often times the money that is being sent does not reach these communities that are in need. What is suggested however is to visit these communities first hand and see for your self what is needed and how wonderful these people truly are.

We at AfroLatinos can provide information and contacts for communities to visit. We also would like to invite viewers to join us, if you would like to travel you can tag along with us to touch someone’s life and make a difference.

How can YOU help? What can YOU do? It is as easy as bringing a map of Africa to show where our descendants are from, donating notebooks and textbooks to schools, bringing computer equipment to children or teaching these communities English. You can visit a town and play soccer with the kids or just by spending quality time with our AfroLatino brother and sisters goes along way. It is about learning about another culture, their traditions, and sharing their language—this is a form of helping.

Our mission is to help one family at a time and helping starts with you traveling to these places and building relationships with these communities. There are major social issues like no water; minimal access to resources, medical clinics, political corruption and malnutrition, but the smallest contribution will help. Take this opportunity to learn who AfroLatinos really are and make a decision to visit them on your next vacation or trip to Latin America.
