We know that reggae music originates from Jamaica and that the Rastafarian culture also stems from there, but did you know that reggae music is heard from Mexico to Argentina?
Reggae in Spanish is a huge genre that Latinos love and respect. We have selected tracks from all over Latin America and Spain but our journey starts in Panama. The construction of the Panama Canal in the early 1900’s, brought with it a wave of foreign workers migrating from the West Indies who ended up staying in Panama after the canal was built.
Jamaicans, and other West Indians brought with them their culture, and language (Patua) as well as Rastafarian beliefs. The arrival of the Rastafarian culture and reggae music remains to this day a way of life in cities like Colón. Reggae in Spanish grew popular in Panama in the 80’s. Artists like El General made reggae in Spanish popular worldwide.
Many of the songs you will listen to on this station have rhythms and beats from Jamaican songs—all part of the Jamaican culture. We also give you exclusive tracks from unsigned groups like Quinto Sol from Los Angeles and popular bands like Los Cafres from Argentina and Cultura Profetica from Puerto Rico. We mix it up with a lot or roots and culture, some dub tracks and of course dancehall.
